Potential + Opportunity = Success

Jenter Akin Sikuku has just graduated from Kiriri Women’s University of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in computer science.
Jenter shares, “I am from Sidundo area near the Nzoia River and am the fi rst born in a family of six. I studied my secondary school in Nyambare Mixed Secondary School where I attained a mean grade of B. After receiving a letter to join the university, my parents couldn’t aff ord to pay my fees and they organized a WhatsApp fundraising. That’s when Demo came to my rescue as a miracle and connected me with you and WE Care International. You started paying my fees right from year one, semester one in September 2019 when I joined the university.”
In 2020 when she was already enrolled at the university, Jenter was taken to the hospital in Nairobi with COVID and experienced complications due to her asthma. Her family was unable to pay the bills which included transportation by ambulance, a hospital stay, doctor care and medications. Patients are not released from the hospital in Kenya without complete payment. Fortunately, WE Care was able to cover those expenses.
Current university students include Joseph, Janet, Costa, Denilson, Brian, and Lewis.
Secondary School Students
Miriam, an orphan who was living with her ailing grandmother, is entering Form 3 at a boarding school where she can concentrate on her studies.
Six seniors are currently taking national exams that determine their qualifications for university admission. Keziah, Washington and Movin attended boarding schools while Antoinette, Shantal and Jentrix were enrolled in local day schools. We wish them well.
WE Care International will continue supporting seven students moving to Form 4 (senior) and eight students advancing to Form 3 (junior).

In our title, CARE has special meaning...
WE Care has supported Lewis, an orphan living with his grandmother and four younger siblings, from the time he entered secondary school and continued into university. In October he suddenly became very ill and was admitted to the Siaya hospital where he underwent emergency colorectal surgery. The tumor was malignant and he is now beginning six weeks of chemotherapy. WE Care paid his $1400 hospital bill and is now prepaying $400 each week for two sessions of chemo. The hospital demands payment prior to each session. His ailing grandmother had no resources to provide for transportation or his medical bills. WE Care will not abandon him at this critical time; we will be monitoring his progress and report in the next newsletter. WE Care expresses profound gratitude to all donors who make our work possible.

Secondary school curriculum in Kenya includes classes in agriculture. Students and teachers from the local secondary school recently used the Jim Abrams Jr. Learning Center for a seminar on ways to improve dairy and poultry production. WE Care sponsored improvements to the community have captured the attention of Siaya County offi cials who see potential in using this unique facility for expanded education in the future.
Long term improvements completed by WE Care in recent years continue to enhance life for the entire Mahero community.
Drilled well and installed submersible pump and storage tank
Purchased Solar panels for reliable electric power
Constructed community learning center
Purchased computers and phone charging stations
Built latrine for girls at local school
Excavated reservoir to capture rainwater for animals and irrigation
The Kenyan government has nearly doubled tuition and fees for all levels of education in 2024; thus, WE Care will concentrate on maintaining support for our current students.
Your continued generosity is greatly appreciated. I had no idea over twenty years ago when I saw the opportunity to help Adama become a doctor in Mali and Daniel become a pharmacist in Kenya that it would be possible to touch so many other lives. I am convinced that positive changes will continue through the lives of those you have helped WE Care educate. Thank you.
